I'm a little nutz and prefer the non-nato 8mm round as my heavy - of course with a belt-fed MG, who wouldn't ?!?!

From what I've found, rifle is about 4k and rounds I'll have to look up on break.

The 4k quote is just from a comment on the video, I didn't even know it was in production yet. So I'm happy to see that comment. :-)

.30-06 bolt guns for me. My long range rifles are a Remington 1903A3 and Savage 110 in .30-06. I also have some Mosins but those are my favorites.

I voted .308 as we have 4 of them, but my #1 gun in the oak scrub is my .444 marlin carbine. :10_1_20:
Its either called an Outfitter or a guide gun, I forget which.

I wouldn't call any of the choices 'heavy', but I went with 7.62MM (308) a while back because of the low cost of the round, high availablity, terminal performance, and the platforms built around it. Of course, the cost benefit is no longer there.:wink:

IMO, 'heavy' cartridges would be more like the 444marlin mentioned above, 458 winmag, 45/70, the various 416 cartridges, and even 44mag and 338 Lapua. The 8mm (7.92x57) is the only one on your list that even comes close, and it's rather anemic compared to a 444marlin or 338 lapua!

Yeah, but the 338 Lapua is like $4 per round vs. a 30-cent 8mm round.

What does the 444-Marlin run ?

What's the heaviest round to be bought under $1 a piece ?

Oh, you mean full power rifle cartridge?

It's a tough one, but even with the high cost these days, I'd still go with the 7.62MM. The 30 cal is ballistically the same, and much cheaper, but unless you're going to buy/build one of the Barretta 'improvements' on the Garand, you're stuck with an 8 round mag.

The rest are only in bolt turners. Of course you have MG knock offs (sorry, but a semi auto MG design is a whole lot like kissing your sister IMO), but they aren't and never were designed as a rifle, and aren't of any tactical use that I can see.

My MG rocks ~ ever shot 1 ??? ........and I plan on getting a tripod for it for rapid fire (you coulda said kissing your cousin instead).

Oh and this AIN'T no battle rifle - it's an all out SQUAD weapon - defend the FORT and takeout targets from the 2nd story, if need be.

I like to be prepared for anything.

I vote .308. I own several and love them. I really like shooting my friend's .300 Win Mag, too.

Thinking of "heavy" rounds, I thought >.30 cal. So my vote was for 8mm Mauser. My friend handloads 8mm, it can be quite impressive (in ft-lbs) with the right bullet and powder load.

.308 all the way!!!

It provides reliable stopping power when launched from my pre-64 Winchester Model 70 while hunting or for what ever else it might be needed for. O yeah, .308 is an easily found cartrige as well...

.308 in a 1908 mauser with a M85 canadian sniper barrel. I can shoot your eye out a 300.

Around $20-30 a box of 20 rounds or cheaper for the standard 240gr remington rounds.The .444 round is very popular in my area and easy to find @ about any store.The oak forests here are thick and getting thicker so long shots are getting more rare every year.
Short, ported lever guns with some type of red dot sight and a big bullet work great here.:ok:
